Another Face, Thumbnails and a Vignette

The face for today is my maternal great grandfather.  He looks rather stern, and I'm sure that my grandmother mentioned on more than one occasion that he was. 

The second page was done in my large flexi-sketch book.  I did some thumbnails of winter scenes from photographs.  I may make them a bit larger next time.  Then I did a postcard size vignette based loosely on one of the thumbnails.  It was something new and fun to do on a cold, snowy day.

January 1 - and Two Challenges

I've now got two challenges going.  First is my "selfie" of when I was a baby, for the "Face a Day" that I started two days ago.  The second is for a challenge started by Palma Rea on the Artist Journal Workshop Facebook page.  Day 1 is to sketch something that should be thrown out but you don't have the heart to do it.  I was wondering what I could do for this, and then noticed that this darn balloon is still hovering in a corner of my kitchen since March. 

A Face a Day

I've wanted to try sketching a face a day ever since seeing Pat Howard's continuous line ones. Mine are done with pen without previous pencil sketching or erasing.  The first page was done from some faces I found online, and the second is my granddaughter.  I was going to start this project on New Year's Day, but while my enthusiasm was still fresh I decided to start now.  Hopefully I can keep it going at least during January.

Christmas Sketches

I spent Christmas week with some of my grandchildren.  These are the sketches that I managed to get done in a house with three adults, and eight children.  It was noisy, crowded, messy and fun, but not a lot of room to sketch.

Floral Sketch

Well, I know I've done some sketching between August and now, but it seems like I have not been posting.  Even this one was done several weeks ago, but I hadn't gotten around to putting color on it until today.   This was done from a photo of a bouquet that I received on Mothers' Day.  In my Strathmore Visual Journal.
